NY Times article reviews Barcelona, Spain - Barcelona remains one of the most popular destinations in Europe, long after the 1992 Olympics, which sparked the city's revival. The old becomes "the happening place"

The western side of the city, known as El Raval, once Barcelona's red-light district. El Raval's maze of narrow, dark streets quietly houses some of Barcelona's oldest bars and restaurants, as well as a growing collection of new hotspots, where the crowds are generally young, the dress the international costume of arty cool (bring your nerdy black-framed eyeglasses), and the vibe often seems worlds away from the polished, wealthy, tourist-filled wine bars and boutiques of the eastern part of the city.
