Vieques to San Juan Puerto Rico Travel Arrangements
Vieques, anyone? The Puerto Rican island of Vieques is back in the news again — though not for the controversy surrounding the U.S. Navy's bombing of the island that sparked protests. The bombing stopped in 2003, and airline service has begun to the island.
The Wyndham Martineau Bay resort on Vieques Island will pay Cape Air $76,000 to cover operating costs on flights for the next six months between the island and both San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Cape Air will operate the routes on a 9-seat Cessna 402, and will fly at least three daily flights to San Juan. One daily flight will operate to St. Croix. "If the market develops we can eventually increase flights," airline spokesman Luis Mora said in an AP report carried by The Ledger of Lakeland, Fla. Passengers can earn Continental frequent-flier miles on Cape Air flights, and the carrier also has partnerships with other major carriers. Posted at 11 a.m.From Ben at USA Today
